jason loves these. i keep looking at the fingernails and thinking, those would so not make the hand model standards of today.

"jingle bell rock" automatically makes me think of that scene in home alone when he's dancing with the cardboard and mannequins. that movie probably reminds me more of christmas than any other movie. i saw it on tv last week and i have to say, it holds up quite well.

i really hate it when people give me a hard time about not liking a particular food or spice. i mean, we are all different, okay? sometimes i'm even tempted to just say i'm allergic because suddenly people act more understanding. fuck these people.

here's a list of things i'd rather die than eat:

-all nuts (especially walnuts)
-all beans
-cinnamon
-ginger
-bell peppers

it seems like everyone is talking about being somewhat lonely and overall upset. not everyone i guess, some people. i definitely feel this way. i feel like i can't even like anyone anymore. like i'm just going to get old and shrivel up and never even be in love again. i had fun for a while. now all i want to do is stay in bed and read all day. katherine mansfield's letters, two volumes of them. f. scott fitzgerald and bulgakov and everything else i get recommended but don't get around to. get up only to take a long long shower and make tea. work is the same routine over and over again. every day is the same. sure there are things i look forward to, and i have fun sometimes, but not like before. i feel bored, stagnant. like i'm doing the same shit i was doing years ago. except i am finally getting older. and i've experienced such amazing moments that now nothing feels real anymore. i know it's just a phase. but i want to be able to look at people without having that sense of disappointment, without judging a book by its cover so to speak. I AM NOT LIKE THIS. i am an open person, i love people. why am i being like this? i feel drained. it's been a while since that horrible feeling of being crushed, waking up in the morning and remembering that i am alone now. it's comfortable in a way, being able to stretch in bed as far as my arms and legs will go without hitting an elbow or a knee. i tell myself i don't miss it. how can i miss something that turned out to be so foreign, a mirage of what i wanted. i love my life. there are a million things i look forward to. i just wish it were easier to be like this, always wanting to have someone to share things with. sometimes i feel so unbearably happy and i want to just be able to look at someone and smile and know that they feel that unbearable happiness too. sadness is easy. everyone can relate, feel sympathy. happiness is hard to relate to.

i'm pretty cocky about my guitar hero skills since i'm an expert and can kick anyone's ass. however, yesterday this arrived in the mail and what's that expression again? pride goes before a fall?

i was fairly humbled but hopefully i'll get better at it soon. if not, i'm going to throw it out the window and bust out the guitar again.

Storylines should be good

The Comics Should Be Good blog at Comic Book Resources is currently counting down the results of its Top 100 Comic Book Storylines poll. I intended to vote, but couldn't find the time to sort out my ballot. Robbie voted, though. I think I'll work out a ballot anyway just to share with people who are interested in what I would've voted for. In the meantime, here's a rundown of all the stories on the countdown I've read:

I met up with Robbie to say goodbye before he takes off for Africa for a quarter. I'm going to miss him and his Scottish accent. He left me a big box of comics for me to borrow while he's gone. Now I've finally been able to read Grant Morrison's Batman & Robin, and I'm currently starting the big-ass "Planet Hulk" hardcover.

My interim show during Christmas week will be . . . an event. While I am not currently at liberty to reveal details, something came up today that had to be put into action, and what that show will entail will be of particular interest to long-time KDVS listeners. Just letting you know. Nonetheless, there will still be "Asiatic tunez" courtesy of Le Kelz.

Here's something cool:

It's a postcard distributed to Copenhagen hotel guests during the UN climate summit exhorting visitors not to buy the services of local sex workers. But that's not the cool thing. This is: "The Sex Workers Interest Group (SIO) has co-opted the postcards as a marketing tool by announcing that anyone who brings one to the group along with their COP15 ID badge will get to indulge in sex workers' services for free!". While I agree somewhat with the comment about the notion of having sex with prostitutes for free being jarring, that comes at least partially from a context in which 'freebies' often = extortion.

On a tangentially related note, Dec. 17th (this Thursday) is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

i ran into an ex at starbucks last week. i wish i hadn't recognized him in line because the ensuing conversation was excruciatingly awkward in that forced, polite way. cringefest 2009.

sometimes i wish i could sweep all my exes off the surface of the earth and relocate them to a colony on another planet, like the one in aliens, just so i could eliminate all possibility of awkward small talk over lattes. then i could visit from time to time to deliver an occasional smackdown:

"you were the worst boyfriend ever!"

I'm looking for an image of the packaging for some kind of "My First..." type toy for young girls. Have in mind something with swirly/bubbly script, hearts, stars, that kind of thing. Not looking for a specific item, just want an example of that kind of packaging design. Not looking for barely legal porn either, but if the style is right that would be fine.

Thank you, fiends.

Man, I want to be with someone who will read Moby Dick out loud to me. I also want to figure out a reasonable way to wear my totoro costume again before Halloween 2010.

We finally got our plane tickets to Okinawa. If all goes according to plan, I'll be gone from Feb. 11 to May 10. Yipes! I'm getting nervous about it. I am not feeling so confident in my speaking skills. I'm majorly burnt out on the class.

I spent the afternoon at my high school yesterday. It was such a trip! Hella hallway flashbacks. It felt good to be there, like I had almost forgotten so many things about it and now I can hang on longer. It made me remember that before Davis and KDVS, I had a sense of place there too, a community of offbeat friends in the science quad.

I threw away an entire lemon curd tart I made because it was practically inedible, but then I made hella good banana walnut gingerbread. I win.
